THE first anniversary of the Holey Artisan tragedy was observed. The hated terrorists killed twenty innocent men and women, including seventeen foreigners. It is a black day in our history. Two members of law enforcing agencies were also killed by the terrorists. Many others were injured. The assailants were five in number and they entered the bakery with crude bombs, machetes, pistols.
We are a peace-loving nation and we never lend support to any kind of violence.
But in spite of our inherent hatred, violence is spreading and more importantly acts of violence are being unleashed in the name of religion. Bright young people are brainwashed and motivated to be involved in terrorist activities. It is sad that very few of such incidents are investigated into. The probe into Holey Artisan Bakery incident is yet to be completed. When we need to find out the root cause of this incident, inordinate delay in investigation only encourages the criminals. We should not be surprised if incidents like this happen again in future. It was in the holy month of Ramadan when people of the country were busy with prayer and fasting and ironically innocent people were killed in the name of religion. The Holey Artisan incident should be an eye opener for all to be united against terrorism of any kind.
